This morning we will visit the Santiago base of the Fundacion Solidaridad, a fair trade organization of women who produce artisan products. The organization helps to train local indigenous people, and commercialize their skills.
We will meet Winnie, an inspiring character who founded the organization to support the production and sale of handicrafts of political prisoners during the Pinochet era. We will hear an explanation of how and why the foundation was set up, how it is organized, and how they work today, including many interesting insights into Fair Trade in Chile.
After lunch we will head to the outskirts of Santiago to visit some of their producers at home in their workshops, where we will have chance to meet and talk with the producers, see their products, learn how they are made, and hear how the Fundacion Solidaridad has changed the lives of these people.

Background
The Fundacion Solidaridad was founded as a non profit organization in 1990, but already has its origins in 1974, starting to support the protection and sale of handicrafts of political prisoners.
The aim of the organization is to help increase the income and facilitate the market insertion of people who make an own effort to overcome poverty. To improve their quality of life, groups like women's organizations, youth groups, indigenous groups of family micro businesses are supported. One of the main fields of activity is the training in the following fields: production process, calculation of costs and prices and quality control. Furthermore, the Fundación Solidaridad provides services such as marketing of goods, promotion in Chile and worldwide, as well as organizational advice. The products are sold in 15 countries all around the world.
