Recognized as the only company to represent Orvis in all of South America, Gray Fly Fishing has been a trusted business partner of Orvis since 1990. Gray Fly Fishing specializes in fly-fishing excursions, providing top quality guides with years of experience in the deep rivers of the far South of Chile. Gray Fly Fishing also offers comfortable rustic cabins to complete your trip into the forests of Patagonia.
Trips
Transport from Puerto Varas will take you into the Patagonian forests where you will find wild rivers full of a variety of fish. Here you can find not only tight lines and rivers full of salmon, rainbow and brown trout but also an escape into the end of the world in all of nature's glory. There is a professional guide for every two anglers. The trips include snacks throughout the day (including ice cold beers!) and a filling and delicious lunch, topped off with fine Chilean wines.
Petrohue River
Spend a full day on the river, 8 to 10 hours, which is best accessed by a small drift boat. The river Petrohue is a large river running out of Lago Todos los Santos, east of Puerto Varas. Mountains covered in dark green vegetation surround this beautiful river that many people consider to be one of the most beautiful rivers in the world. At the top of the river, there are great rapids which are too large to raft, but later the fast flowing stream mellows out to create a perfect location for fly fishermen. The then river flows into the Reloncaví Estuary.
Puelo River
Depending on your preferences this clear green river allows you to use either dry or wet flies and wade or float in a small boat. It has picturesque scenery with small farms located along one shore and abundant forests and sloping hills surrounding you. The river flows from a lake high in the Andes of Argentina, bringing its crystal cold water down through diverse landscapes into the Reloncaví Estuary. You will spend a full day, 8 to 10 hours, on the river.
Mauline River
This river starts from the Llanquihue Lake, located just outside of Puerto Varas. It starts off running clear and then has darker muddier water and is an especially good location for catching brown trout. It includes a full 8 to 10 hours on the river; the trout here are best located by a small drifting boat to access some of the biggest fish lying in the deep pools.
Posada Puelo
The cabins provided by Gray Fly Fishing offer a certain form of rustic elegance with all of your needs met in comfortable style. The main lodge includes a full size kitchen, a living room with satellite TV, DVD, games and books. There is also a hot tub calling you back from the river's edge and a great barbecue area. They have a capacity for 12 fishermen in individual cabins.
Orvis School
The first Orvis School in South America, Gray Fly-fishing offers private lessons with professional instructors especially trained by Orvis. Only one hour from Puerto Varas, this school is in a private area where no other fishermen can go.

Gray Fly fishing's experts are also some of the best at helping to outfit you with all the latest and best gear for all of your fly fishing needs.
