I large earthquake hit Peru a few hours ago at 6.41pm local time. It reached 7.9 on the Richter scale and was centered just 160km (90 miles) south of Lima. The Director of the Institute of Geophysics said that it has been the strongest quake to hit the coastal area of Peru in 50 years. Reports and still hard to come by though at least 17 people have been killed and many more injured.
