A Chunk of Chile with a Dash of South America

Living and travelling in South America from our base in Chile since 1997. I have personally experienced the extremes here, living in a shed without a bathroom in a poor dangerous part of town to the other extreme of having an elegant dinner with the President at the palace. This blog is about things that I have done or that have caught my attention here as well as travel information that may be useful.

James Bond in Chile

Yes, everyone's favourite 007 agent will be in Chile this month to film parts of the lastest Bond movie called "Quantum of Solace", the 22nd in the series.
Filming will take place in the Atacama Desert region in the North of Chile starting on the 23rd of March and lasting between 10 and 12 days. The specific locations are yet to be confirmed (to stop all those instant stardom seekers from appearing out of the blue) though it is known that they will be shooting a scene at the Paranal Space Observatory and that a plane will be landing in the middle of the desert (where ISN'T there desert up there???).
The three main stars, Daniel Craig (the 'newish' James Bond), Olga Kurylenko (his bond girl who is originally from the Ukraine so she must be hot) and the French actor Mathieu Amalric will arrive earlier before shooting, probably to acclimatize themselves (by indulging in some Pisco Sours not just the altitude).
The film crew will be shooting a scene in Machu Picchu in Peru before coming to Chile.

If any of the film crew or actors read this, DEFINITELY TRY PISCO SOUR (the Chilean national drink that everyone comes back for more) but DON'T DRINK PISCO WITH COCA COLA (unless you want a horrendous hangover the next day!)
That's basically all you need to know about surviving in Chile! :)

Have a great day!
