My Birthday at Ambassador's Residence
Yes, I celebrated my birthday with 200 or so guests at the Australian Ambassador’s residence sipping champagne and wine as waiters served delicious hors d'oeuvres to the elegantly dressed guests that attended. Sounds impressive though it wasn’t in my honour. No, just a mere coincidence.
Australia Day is on the 26th of January though this year the Australian embassy in Chile celebrated it the following day, the 27th, which just so happens to be my birthday.
Why did I get an invite considering I’m a Kiwi (that’s another way of saying New Zealander if you didn’t know)? One of our companies represents some Australian Universities and language schools so we are fortunate to be on the guest list.
Why did I go when it was my birthday? Well, many of my friends and people that I know were going to be there anyway. If I had held my own party the same night, would anyone really have turned up? I mean, comparing dry bread crusts and cheap beer at my event to the elegant champagne and hors d'oeuvres at the residence, ahh, not a hard choice.
So now the photos of my 20th birthday (my nose just grew longer that Pinocchio’s) show me having polite conversation with ladies in elegant evening gowns, or if not, conversing about the latest state of affairs with men in dark suits. Oh gosh, how titillating! Believe me, it was far from serious and was a fun night with excessive amounts to drink and eat with the resulting mayhem. Thanks Ambassador!
Subliminal message for you – remember his birthday next year… remember his birthday next year…
