Calzones Rotos
Chilean Food
Calzones Rotos - literally translated as “broken underwear” or as a friend once said "ripped knickers".
Calzones Rotost is a sweet, soft dough that is twisted and then fried. Sometimes icing sugar is sprinkled on top.
How do you make calzones rotos?
Make a dough out of flour, baking powder, icing sugar and eggs. Add melted butter and knead the dough. Add small amounts of water if necessary.
Roll the dough on a floured board until the dough is 1/2 cm thick. Cut the dough into 10 cm by 5 cm rectangles. Make a vertical slit in the middle of the dough of about 3cm and then pass one end of the rectangle through this new ‘hole’.
Fry in very hot oil. Drain when golden brown then put them in a bowl lined with paper towels (to absorb excess oil). Sprinkle with icing sugar.
